The Ultimate Piece of Art

Sometimes, when you combine too much money with a love for Porsches, you get a funky outcome. This is definitely one of those times. When Gil Dezer moved into his swank luxury condo in Sunny Isles, Florida, his interior design team told him he needed some art. Little did they know that would lead to the art being an actual 1950 Porsche 550 Spyder hung on a wall.

The 550 Spyder came from Dezer’s collection and, I suppose, is the ultimate statement of Porsche passion. The process took months of planning and architecting to prepare the car for the wall and ensure it wouldn’t fall on someone’s head.

There’s some good commentary and video of the process on the Miami Herald’s site. Check it out here: Off The wall: Condo owner’s decor includes a Porsche Spyder 550.

I’m not really sure how I feel about this. In one sense, it’s gotta be close to being an ultimate piece of art. On the other hand, even though the car is ultra rare and not something you’d use for a grocery run, shouldn’t it still be kept in working order and driven on special occasions? Seems like all cars, no matter how rare, should be driven and enjoyed as they were originally intended.

  1. I agree with you Ryan. Yes there are cars like the 550 that are as much art as they are driving machines (Etorre Bugatti more than any mfgr. felt that way too)….But even if the car steps out just once a year for a ride around the block or gets started only in the driveway to show to friends…I think it should be kept in running order!….Does look cool like that….Why not use a real good replica here?

  2. Another case of having more dollars than sense. I think Florida would be a perfect place to drive that car around and enjoy it.

  3. Beautiful car that is a work of art, but I feel the setting is inappropriate. Brad is right, that is a perfect spot for a good replica.

  4. idiot.

    • Well, I have to agree with Andrew. Someone’s an idiot. Either the Miami Herald writer for not getting their facts straight on the price or Dezer for either buying a replica 550 Spyder he thought was real or mounting a real one on the wall.

  5. Makes my 912 engine lid look kind of pathetic.

  6. I didnt read the first article l .. I ASSuMEd lol

  1. […] Most Porsche owners will agree that their cars are as nice to look at as they are fun to drive. Gil Dezer of Miami, Florida shows his feelings by hanging a Porsche 550 spyder (replica I presume) as artwork on the wall of his new condo.
