10 Porsche Enthusiast Gift Ideas (aka What I want for Christmas!)

With the holidays quickly approaching, it can always be a little tough to find something suitable for your significant other. My wife always asks me “What do you want for Christmas?” to which I rarely have a decent reply. This year I thought I’d put together a little list of possible Porsche related presents.

The gifts range in price, size, extravagance, etc. About half are under $100 and the most expensive one is about $3000. If you have more than that to spend, buy one of everything on the list for the Porsche enthusiast in your life!

1. TAG Heuer Carrera Watch
TAGHeuer.com
Although not specifically named after a Porsche Carrera, both the car and watch share the Carrera Panamericana race as their namesake. Motor racing and GT cars have always been a source of inspiration for TAG Heuer watch masters and engineers. The TAG Heuer Carrera line offers both men and women great watches with classic Swiss movement and many different styles to choose from. They’re tough enough to wear everyday regardless of what you’re doing, yet classy enough to wear with a tux. My personal favorite is the Grand Carrera.

2. Porsche Key Ring
EagleDay.com
A small gift, but one that will be enjoyed every day for a long time. I still have a couple of keyrings from over 10 years ago that I use all the time. Personally I like the Turbo Rim. It’s unique and pretty cool looking. For something more subtle, take a look at the Leather Keyring. The keyrings aren’t cheap, but they look like they’re decent quality so they should last and be worth the money. If you take a look around, I’m sure you’ll find lots of places that carry different styles if you don’t like what EagleDay has to offer.

3. Subscription to Excellence Magazine
Excellence: The Magazine About Porsche
I was a long time subscriber to Excellence Magazine, then dropped it a couple of years ago because I wasn’t reading it. I’ve since picked my subscription back up. I even have a few of the early issues when it was called Porsche Magazine. In my opinion, it’s the best widely available monthly publication dedicated to the Porsche brand. Worth every penny and your Porsche lover will love this mag.

4. Car Detailing
There’s nothing like driving a freshly detailed car. It reminds you of that new car feeling and is just simply satisfying. A great gift would be a gift certificate to have your favorite Porsche detailed or even get the car in before Christmas to have it detailed as a surprise gift. You can go simple and easy by visiting a wash and having the car vacuumed or go higher end and have the car completely detailed. There are lots of places that will do a full detail job including your local Porsche dealership. Even though it seems small or trivial, it can be a great surprise and oftentimes is something we don’t take the time to have done ourselves.

5. Porsche Books
Here are a few very popular and high quality books that should make for enjoyable reading regardless of what your Porsche enthusiast’s interest is. These would make my Top 10 Porsche Books of all time list:

  1. Porsche: Excellence Was Expected: The Comprehensive History of the Company, its Cars and its Racing Heritage – 2008 Update
  2. Porsche 911: The Complete Story (Crowood Auto Classics)
  3. 101 Projects for Your Porsche 911 1965-1989
  4. Porsche 911 Story: The Entire Development History
  5. How to Rebuild and Modify Porsche 911 Engines 1965-1989
  6. Porsche High-Performance Driving Handbook
  7. Porsche 911 Performance Handbook

6. Porsche Sport Driving School

I’ve always thought it would be both fun and probably very educational to attend a driving school. What a better experience than to go through the school in your own Porsche. Porsche Sport Driving School offers the opportunity to increase your driving skills, boost your confidence and learn what the true capabilities of your own car are. I’ve heard great things about the Driving School experience and would find it a worthwhile gift.

7. Porsche Design Pen

Pens may or may not be your Porsche Enthusiast’s thing. Seems like either you love fine writing instruments or think a Bic will do just fine. If the former is in line, consider a Porsche Design pen or pen set. They’re not outrageously priced (as many fine writing instruments are) and offer Porsche’s attention to quality, detail and styling. There are a number of styles to choose from. If you’re unsure what to get, consider the TecFlex line.

8. Porsche Driving Diary
Porsche-Design.com
This suggestion may make you think twice about it’s viability, but it’s really a pretty cool idea. People drive Porsches for the experience they bring. Why not give a gift that chronicles the journey? A friend of mine has a little Moleskine in his camper to make notes of things that need to be fixed or reminders of stuff to bring for the next trip. He’s planning on using it for the next 10 or 15 years (or however long it lasts) then giving it to one of his kids as a reminder of the experiences they had together as a family camping. The driving diary could be a similar tool that ends up being something you both look back on, are reminded of the great experiences you had in a fun car or two and cherish the memories.

9. Factory Service Manual
Ebay.com
If you’re giving a Porsche related gift to someone who is mechanically inclined, or desires to be so, a Porsche Factory Service Manual might be the way to go. You’ll want to find the manual for the exact model and eBay can be a great place to find a used one. This is one of those gifts that doesn’t matter if it’s used. In fact, for older Porsches it can even lend to the mystique by being an older, used manual instead of a new one.

10. Driving Music
Amazon.com
Whether it’s an iTunes gift card or a couple of CDs of your Porsche enthusiast’s favorite genre, music is always a great way to go. Even though one of the reasons you drive a Porsche is to enjoy the sound of the car, there’s also something about cranking up your favorite tunes while on the open road. If you’re not sure what to get, grab a couple of selections from what was popular for the gift recipient in high school or college. Seems like we always enjoy going back in time a bit to more carefree days.
