Is Porsche Working On A Ferrari Killer?

I saw this come across my scan late last night, but didn’t have time to post it. Several automotive sites are whipping us back into a frenzy over what Porsche may or may not be working on. Last November, the Internet was abuzz about a possible new model to fill the gap between the ultra-exclusive Porsche 918 Spyder and the Porsche 911 Turbo S.

It seems we have enough new info to paint a bit more of the potential picture.

Searching turned up a couple of different images and renderings. First, Automobile Magazine had this image, which seems to be one of the more popular ones:

Next up, I found another site that indicated the following could be the Porsche 960:

The front and sides look very similar to the Porsche 918 Spyder.

A few details most of the sites seem to have in common:

  • Mid-mounted 3.9 liter eight cylinder boxer engine
  • 650 hp courtesy of 4 (yes FOUR) turbochargers
  • 0 to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds
  • 7-speed PDK
  • Target weight of around 3,000 pounds
  • Production run of 3k to 4k units a year
  • Possible production beginning in 2017

As I’ve mentioned many times in the past, it would be cool if this hit the production line, but it’s even more fun to dream about what Porsche is secretly working on! Gives you that fuzzy feeling of anticipation.
