Mid-Week Porsche Wrap

There were too many things from the past two weeks to fit in my Sunday post (that I didn’t get done until Monday). These ones were too good to pass up.

Psycho Porsche driver tries to arrest 8 year old boy – Well, this one you’re not going to believe. A Porsche owner tried to haul an 8-year old boy to the pokey for…..ready for this…..blowing dandelion seeds at his car. The 47 year old man from Hittfeld, Germany (I’m surprised it didn’t say Hitler, Germany) abducted the boy and took him to the police station to report what he called a “dangerous stunt”. The boy was of course terrified and fortunately some onlookers called the police when they saw the man hustling the boy into his Porsche. The man is facing up to 2 years in prison. Now THAT is one dedicated Porsche owner. Unfortunately not the kind any of us would like to be associated with. [Via Google News]

Uwe Gemballa still missing and Gemballa officially closes up shop – It’s sad, for a number of reasons. First, Uwe is still missing. He disappeared in Johannesburg, South Africa in early February. The last anyone heard from him was on February 9th. He asked his wife for 1 million Euros. Now the Gemballa company has been liquidated and it’s doors closed. I just tried the web site and it displays a blank page. Although the press site is still online. Sad that Uwe is still missing and also sad that this Porsche tuning shop is now gone. It’s also a bummer to see them go out like this. I wonder how that will impact Gemballa prices? [Via MotorTrend.com]

Porsche 911 GT3 RS vs. Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera – Maybe not a true verses setup, but a side-by-side comparison. I’m usually not a big fan of these types of comparisons. I think it’s tough to truly put aside personal preference in a comparison situation to appreciate each car’s lineage, characteristics and charms, but this is a decent read. Guess I don’t have to hit the local Border’s and stand at the magazine rack for 15 minutes to take in the article. This one is from the June 2010 issue of Automobile Magazine. Porsche ranked #1 in vehicle satisfaction – Haven’t seen a Porsche award for a few weeks, so I thought I’d throw this one in. Here’s a clip from the Porsche press release:

In a survey of 42,000 owners rating their new 2010 model year cars and trucks, Porsche owners have ranked the 911 as the best sports car in satisfying customers, according to the 14th Annual Vehicle Satisfaction Awards (VSA) by AutoPacific.

Turns out this is the first time the Porsche 911 has won this award. [Source: Press.Porsche.com]

  1. Wow, I cant believe Gemballa is gone they were an icon in the eighties.

  2. It too has dust from sitting nearly as long in storage building. I know the engine will need some clean up and replacing o-rings and such…
