Porsche Gemballa Mirage GT Carbon Edition

It’s no secret how I feel about Gemballa. I love their creations and have for a number of years now. Known for never leaving well enough alone, Gemballa took on the Carrera GT a few years ago. Again, not one to leave well WELL enough alone, they decided to release a special edition called the Gemballa Mirage GT “Carbon Edition”.

With lots of exposed, yep you guessed it, carbon fiber accents, the black on white color scheme looks pretty amazing. And that’s coming from a guy who isn’t in love with white sports cars in general. Add in the black custom alloy wheels and I start to break out in a cold sweat.

Here are some highlights of the $426,000 STARTING price for this kit (and nope, that doesn’t include the Porsche Carrera GT):

  • 670 hp with 465 lb-ft of torque
  • 0 to 62 mph in 3.7 seconds, 0 to 124 mph in 9.7 seconds (that equates to 0 to Going To Jail in about 6.8 seconds in most states)
  • Top speed of 208 mph
  • Hydraulic height-adjustable coilover kit to improve handling as well as protect the car when going over large bumps

You can’t argue with this being one of the hottest kits you can buy for the Carrera GT. Crazy that it costs more than a used Carrera GT goes for in today’s economy.

The big question for me is would you customize your Carrera GT? Isn’t the stock ride enough kick in the pants fun and sexy enough without needing to jack it up with lots of mods? I think I’d have a hard time changing the car significantly. Would kind of feel like you’re bastardizing what Porsche originally intended. Course IF you were going to do it, the Gemballa Mirage GT Carbon Edition would be a pretty dang enticing option.

  1. I am one of those guys who thinks the CGT is BETTER in stock configuration and no word could be better used than “bastardizing” to define what body kits accomplish…..with the CGT that is.
However thats not to say this looks bad at all! But CGT seems to lose its purity (if that makes sense) when pimped out. Thats not a bad mark against Gemballa either, I can rattle off more than a handful of cool cars they have tweaked.

One thing i am not a fan of is blacked out wheels and i seem to stand alone. I think this Gemballa treatment would look even better if a satin (stock) finish was left to the wheel, Even if not a stock wheel.

I dont think blacked out wheels are a bad look, I just think satin is better. Probabably better than chrome though. Chrome is for hot rods and Peterbilts 🙂 (not a bad thing either)

  2. great car,stock or not.

  3. I mean, it looks pretty BA – that’s for sure. Still, for 2x the cost of the Carrera GT I would certainly expect at least a better boost in performance than 0.2secs 0-62 from stock. I wouldn’t go for it, but if you’re in the mood to “rice out” your Carrera GT (and still be fashionable of course).

  4. I’ve thought about the question of modifying cars as well. I think that if the car is a special low production car you leave it alone like a GT3 RS. Regular 911 go ahead, with a car like the Carrera GT I would probably leave it. But if you are going to change it, do it right. Sometimes it can add to the value down the road if you stick with a well known Tuner like Gemballa or RUF. Think of those RUF turbos or the Gemballa Avalanche, who would turn one of them down?

  5. The more i think about this, 425k for the Mirage upgrade (upgrade could be subjective in terms or opinion…no offense to Gemballa)

But at that price, I would take two stock CGT`s. My color choice woes have just been eased a little 🙂

  6. That is pretty wild looking. I think I would have gone another direction with the mods.

  7. I agree w/ Brad – for the money, I’ll take two factory spec cars
