Tempting Porsches #20

Alright, I may be addicted…to my own posts! It seems like I’ve found a lot of really REALLY Tempting Porsches lately. Add into the mix what you fine readers are submitting and I could just sit and post about Tempting Porsches all day long!

Tempting Porsche #1

The first TP is a 1986 911 Carrera Targa. Exterior is Guards Red. Interior is Black leather. I talked to the owner of this Porsche who just moved to Hawaii, thus the reason for a “quick sale”.

Here are some of the ad details:

Options include: Windows, Mirrors, Locks, Cruise Control, A/C (No Pump Installed), Headlight washers etc. Car is in great shape for being 23 yrs old! Has the bullet proof 3.2L engine with the 5 spd. Interior is in good shape except drivers seat leather is slightly fading in spots. Paint is good, with a few small rock chips on lower valance. Recent CV axles, valve adjustment, tires, oil change and NEW clutch assembly! 16″ Fuchs Fully Chromed rims. Whale Tail. Targa Top on the car is in perfect condition and does not need to be restored nor does it leak! Have car cover and bra for the car as well. Car runs and drives like a dream. The car has 250k highway miles, but is very well maintained. I was also told that the engine has been gone through as well. The car DOES NOT smoke! If this was an 80-100k mile car, it would be going for $15,000-$18,000 range. I am being very realistic on my asking price.

I have to agree with him. If this mileage were closer to 100k, this car would easily be near double the value. Amazing what some miles will do to a car’s value. The crazy thing is, with an engine in good shape, along with the other stuff that’s been done, why couldn’t it go for another 200k miles? Worst case, the engine craps out on you and you replace it or rebuild it and, done at the right shop, you’re still in less than a car with 100k on the odo.

I really like the look of this car. Especically with the chrome fuchs. I even like the tea tray spoiler which I’m not usually a fan of.

Price: $9500. This one’s been up for a few weeks and this guy isn’t going to drag it over to Hawaii with him. I bet you could easily offer $8k and be close if not pick it up for that. Maybe even less if you wait a bit longer.

Tempting Porsche #2

Our second TP is another car I came across at nearly the same time as the one above. This one is a 1983 911SC Targa. This Targa is finished in a slate, metalic blue paint. Black interior.

From the Craigslist ad:

1983 911sc Targa slate metalic, blk interior. 174,000 miles. Great shape drive and handles great! Never driven in the rain!

The owner really gave this ad some thought and attention, eh. Nothing like writing some copy to really SELL your car.

I really like this slate blue color. Also like no spoiler on the Targa models.

Get this though…asking price is only $8500! That’s a great price even with 174k miles if it all checks out. This would be a great weekend car or casual driver.

I can definitely see how people start collections of these cars. I could easily buy both of these and just have fun driving them on alternating days.

Comments

  1. NADA low market value for both of these cars is around 15-16k. I like the 83 SC better, but a low ask price with minimal info, coupled with the fact that it’s on CL immediately makes me suspicious

  2. These two examples come from “the” era for the 911!….In my opinion. And these are cars you can drive every day! The 86 Guards/Red Targa (love Targas!) is the choice for me!

  3. Both are good deals. I would totally buy the red one and it would be a great car for many years. Very affordable.

  4. like cars that are really driven.25 year`old porsches with less than 100k miles would be weird.

  5. I could see either of these two in my garage. Definitely one of those “Sunday” cars but still fun non-the-less.

  6. Yes, I agree with ruthless. I’ll take a pass on these babies.

  7. #2 would be my choice as well, but it does seem suspiciously low.
May be worth a shot to go check it out. I agree it would be a great car to just tool around in on the weekends.

  8. Why Can’t I find a 911 GT3 for 15k? Now thats my tempting Porsche!

  9. Phil Schneider says

I think if I was seriously searching for a SC or a
Carrera, it would not include Targas. I like the
flow of the coupes. I’ve never been a fan of
chrome rims, even if they’re fuchs (top 3 all time).
I do like the 2nd car’s slate blue metallic. I guess
that was a popular car color in the mid 80’s.
    My parents had a ’84 Saab 900 S in a slate blue
and I remember when they brought that car home
for the first time thinking it was one of the nicest
    colors ever.

  10. 9500 for that targa? i’d say i could have a lot of fun in that car for that price. yeah it might now be a great long term investment, but it’d be a good joy ride investment =)

Sorry… forgot to say great post – can’t wait to read your next one!

i just saw that exact targa on the road the other day – but it was really beat up. love the fin!

  13. @Mitchell – did it look like it had logged all 250k miles? If so, did they all look like “highway” miles?

  14. good point Andrew – isn’t it always “highway” miles?

  15. KILEY BREITLING says

    I love Porsche

  16. good not so clean fun.

  17. It sure does seem that everyone with a high mileage car only drove it on the highway. Funny how we forget all that city driving it took to make it to the highway.

  18. My ride has almost all highway miles too – sitting in rush hour traffic on Hwys 26 and 217 on my way into and out of the city every day. I suppose I have that going for me when it comes time to sell it.
