Porsche Cayenne Hybrid Details

As mentioned before, Porsche has been hard at work with VW on a hybrid version of the Cayenne. Now we’re starting to see some initial specifications and details of the Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid to be released in 2010.

Reports are showing the following highlights:

  • Fuel economy is estimated to be 26mpg or slightly better – Not great given other hybrid’s claims of up to 50mpg, but we should see better highway economy (respective of it’s size of course) than other hybrids given Porsche’s unique hybrid system.
  • The V-6 used is Audi’s new 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 and produces 333 hp and 324 lb-ft torque
  • 0 to 60 mph will happen in an impressive 6.8 seconds…impressive for a hybrid at least
  • The battery bank for the electric motor will be located in the spare tire well – not sure of the spare tire location or if it’s coming out altogether
  • Here’s one of the coolest things: the car will be capable of traveling at speeds up to 86 mpg completely on electric unction

Some very promising changes to SUV hybrids as we know them today. We’ll see how much of it surfaces, what gets pulled or changed and what’s added.

I’ve always wanted a Toyota Prius (I know I probably shouldn’t even utter those words on a Porsche blog). I wanted to modify it by adding another bank of batteries to get 100 mpg around town with it. Kind of an über hybrid. With all of the flops in the big SUV market in the last few years, it will be interesting to see how the Cayenne S Hybrid is received.

  1. 86 MPG!! That is so impressive. Ryan I love your idea of tricking out a hybrid. It’s kind of an old guy thing to do but hey, we aint no spring chickens anymore.

  2. I like my cars with a little extra badunkadunk in the trunk. Ha!

  3. i think it’s a step in the right direction for porsche. i couldn’t believe you spoke those words about wanting a prius though. if they didn’t have the screaming dork factor it’d be one thing. i don’t understand why toyota doesn’t make if more mainstream looking like the camry.

  4. Damn, only 26 mpg. Thought it would be closer to the 40 mpg I had read on an earlier blog. Any idea on price?

  5. where does the spare go? underneath the vehicle?

surprisingly, i dont mind this. if it makes for a prius-like no noise drive, ill take it. ofcourse its a cayenne which i wouldnt get in the first place.
